Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media also a speaker who is Canadian. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the site with videos and comments analysing the way women are depicted in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer with awards to show in her field, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a site dedicated to education, which examines women's roles in popular culture, is directed by Sarkeesian. Aiming to break down the stereotypes of women that have been portrayed in popular culture, she works on issues related to targeted harassment against women as well as other classes of online space. Sarkeesian is a graduate in political and social thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she is popular and has given talks at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. From an early age Sarkeesian was interested in questions of gender identity as well as feminist theories. While still at school in 2009, she launched the Feminist Frequency site. Her website was in the process of launching a collection of web-based videos that explored the gender roles in video games when she became the victim of online harassment. However, this did not hinder her. This only helped her as a feminist journalist. As a result of the many contribution she's made to feminism, she is the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian, a media journalist who has received numerous accolades and has founded Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that examines how women are represented in pop stories of culture.
